The Stanford Institute of Design, brainstorm heaven & Maria Montessori

Looks like "brainstorm-heaven"!
“We have a dream about building a place for design at Stanford. We want to build a place where design thinking is the glue that binds people together, a place we call the d.school. We want the d.school to be a place for Stanford students and faculty in engineering, medicine, business, the humanities, and education to learn design thinking and work together to solve big problems in a human centered way. We want it to be a place where people from big companies, start-ups, schools, nonprofits, government, and anyone else who realizes the power of design thinking, can join our multidisciplinary teaching, prototyping, and research.â€Â (viadschool.stanford.edu)

Great to see how even large institutions, such as universities, now slowly seem to understand the impact a "creative environment" has on the process of thought and creativity.

Hopefully it won't take another 10 years to bring this from an elitist organisation such as Stanford to everyday-elementary-schools around the world.

My own elementary school was a "Montessori"-school, an education-concept by Maria-Montessori which is a lot about playfulness, exploration and the personal choice. (Wikipedia - Montessori-method)

I learned a lot there and looking back I probably had the most awesome "school-childhood" you can have.

During my whole following time in a "normal"-high school I always missed the feeling of school as a place where you actually "like" to go.
I still think I lost a lot of my creativity and light heartedness on the way, which is now at least 500 times harder to regain :-(
