I wish this was __

Many cities are full of vacant storefronts and people who need things. What if we could easily voice what we want, where we want it and influence the types of stores and services that enter our neighborhood? Those are the questions New Orleans native Candy Chang seeks to answer with her “I Wish This Was” sticker project. It features fill-in-the-blank stickers that say “I wish this was ____.” Just fill them out and put them on abandoned buildings and beyond. Best of all, the stickers are custom vinyl so they can be easily removed without damaging property. Yes, this is totally genius, it’s also a fun, low-barrier tool to provide civic input on-site, and the responses reflect the hopes, dreams, and colorful imaginations of different neighborhoods. Purchase stickers and view the incredible photo gallery here.

I completely love how this idea enables people to say how they think their city should look like. Reinventing your city, one sticker at a time ;)

Now turn it into reality! | The Future of the Books -A study by IDEO (HT: @jkleske)

The Future of the Book. from IDEO on Vimeo.

Notice the "pinch-out" gesture to see the "bigger picture". Exciting to see how we will adapt to the mechanics behind something like that.

The Digital Moleskine: Yes! Microsoft CAN innovate- Hoping this will not just stay another shiny mockup

Yes there is innovation- even within Microsoft!

Fascinating to see how the boundaries of digital and analouge are slowly fading. Patterns that we use in real life, like turning pages and dragging stuff around contribute so much to the whole "experience". Using the concept of "pages" for texts for example removes the "entry boundaries" for so many people who are not Natives in the digital world.
(Check out Instapaper's new pagination mode by the way!)
Integrating and understanding these gestures and patterns will be more important for longterm success than more pixels, speed or whatever. I like that :)

Let's hope that the innovation-hostiliy of a Giant like Microsoft will not stop and destroy the potential of those ideas. The future is exciting :)
